Our Thousand Rivers fabric print started with an aerial photograph of braided rivers and evolved with the use of four-way mirror imaging techniques. The pattern that emerged evokes slices of blue agate and lace.
On the bag's zippered top panel, the words "Like us, the river gather stories as they travel" appear in white calligraphy in arcs that echo a natural circle in the pattern. This phrase by poet Emily Ruth Hazel also flows across a long inside pocket, overlaying an enlarged detail from the same aerial photograph that highlights the sensual shapes and painterly textures of water and sediment deposits along the branching river.
